If you are approaching the house from the west (i.e. Kyle of Lochalsh or Eilean Donan Castle) drive along the A890 past Stromeferry along the south shore of Loch Carron. After you pass Attadale House and Gardens on your right hand side the road climbs steeply and then descends very steeply to sea level again. Exactly at the bottom of the steep hill you will see a layby on the left; turn here and you will see the wooden entrance gates to the house. If you get to Strathcarron you’ve gone too far!
If you are approaching the house from the northeast on the A890 (i.e. Inverness or Achnasheen) turn left (approximately 3 miles before Lochcarron) towards Kyle of Lochalsh (staying on the A890). After crossing the railway line at Strathcarron continue a further 1.5 miles. After you pass the Carron Pottery and Restaurant on your left hand side and immediately before the road starts to climb steeply, turn right into a layby and you will see the wooden entrance gates to the house.
If you are approaching the house from the northwest on the A896 (i.e. Shieldaig, Applecross or Lochcarron) continue through Lochcarron towards Inverness. Approximately 3 miles after Lochcarron turn right onto the A890 (signposted for Kyle of Lochalsh). After crossing the railway line at Strathcarron continue a further 1.5 miles. After you pass the Carron Pottery and Restaurant on your left hand side and immediately before the road starts to climb steeply, turn right into a layby and you will see the wooden entrance gates to the house.
If you are traveling from London or close by I would certainly recommend arriving by Caledonian sleeper and catching the connecting train from Inverness to Strathcarron.
This local line runs from Inverness to Kyle of Lochalsh and passes through some fantasic scenery.
The nearest railway station to Cam-Allt Na Mara is Strathcarron, just 2 miles away. Alternatively, for those adventurous types with no luggage you could continue on past the house and descend at Attadale (a request stop) and walk along the rocky seashore back to the house (about a 40 min walk).
